Across the Lake of Zurich: An IRONCOACH Swim Adventure
What started as a plan to swim the full IRONMAN distance turned into something even better. Three IRONCOACH athletes and I met in Stäfa and set off across the Lake of Zurich at its widest point. When we reached the other side, the little island of Schönenwerd was too tempting to resist, so we added a loop around it. That made it 4.4 km in a very respectable 1:34.
Apart from a side current in the first half hour, conditions were perfect. There’s something special about being out in the middle of the lake, feeling tiny and knowing how far you still have to go. But we were well prepared, in great shape, and enjoyed every stroke together.
A big thank you to our captain Paul, who escorted us in his boat and kept us safe and on course.
Here’s a short clip.
